Well 2017, it’s been fun!

We’ve had some year this year. From continuing to expand our team (including an awesome business development manager and a financial controller) to winning the most awards in our 95 year history, here’s a roundup of Equi’s Ice Cream’s 2017 highlights.

We’ve been a Lanarkshire business since 1922 so the team (especially the Equi family) were delighted to win the Lanarkshire Food & Drink Business of the Year. Equi’s also added another fabulous supermarket to our customer list – you can find our delicious Isle of Skye Sea Salt & Caramel and our new Choc Chip Cookie Dough in Morrisons stores across central Scotland. Lanarkshire Business Awards

Our sales and marketing team definitely clocked up the miles this month! We kicked off our tour with Capital FM Scotland in Edinburgh and worked our way across central Scotland with some help from some awesome radio presenters! We also found out we were shortlisted for Scotland Food & Drink’s Brand Success of the Year!Equi's Ice Cream Equi's Ice Cream Des Clarke

June

Our gelato makers packed up their Scottish raspberries and Deeside Mineral Water to represent Scotland in the UK heat of the European Gelato Festival at Spitalfields Market in London. We were up against some tough competition (including the gelato chef from the Gordon Ramsey Group!) so we couldn’t believe when they announced that we were the winners!Jennifer MacKenzie serving

As production continued to heat up in our ice cream factory (not literally thankfully!), David took his daughter, Alex, to the Gelato University in Rimini to learn the gelato making ropes!Gelato University

August

Oh, August. What a fabulous month you were. The Great Taste Awards is the food producer equivalent to the Oscars. We spent most of August refreshing our emails waiting for the announcement and let me tell you, there were some squeals when it arrived! In total, we won Great Taste Awards for 6 of our flavours, including one 3 Star Great Taste Award for our Alphonso Mango Sorbet.equis great taste 2017

September

Following on from the Great Taste Awards high, our Alphonso Mango Sorbet was one of 3 products nominated for the Scottish Golden Fork! The gang got to go to a fancy award ceremony at the InterContinental Park Lane Hotel in London with some of the best food producers in the UK! It was Inverawe Smokehouses who took home the prize for their amazing smoked trout, but there’s always next year for us!21272449_10155474009720985_7657392256820816369_n

At the end of September, Mr E headed over to Florence with a gelato maker and our top scooper to represent the UK in the final of the European Gelato Festival. Not only do they crown the best gelato in Europe, they’re also looking for the best scooper! Our expert trainer, Jen MacKenzie blew them all away with her near perfect tubs taking home the golden spatula –the best scooper prize!Gelato FestivalGelato Festival
